Laundry Area through the Door on the Right |
What a stupid place for a door! It’s never used, eats up a tremendous amount of space that could be otherwise incorporated into the design, and takes a big hunk out of the middle of the wall in the garage. Combine that with the fact that it has always been served by a 40 watt bulb that throws shadows everywhere and you can see why doing the laundry has always been even more of a drudge than normal.
On top of it all is an air conditioning duct that reduces an already low ceiling another 18 inches or so, resulting in the ability to knock ones self out while trying to move laundry from the washer to the dryer.
The one great thing it does have, though, and which was a “must keep” during the renovation is a laundry chute from the upstairs bathroom directly to the washer.
Exactly on top of the washer, to be more specific, which could stand a bit of design improvement, but nonetheless does not detract from the usefulness of being able to deposit dirty clothes directly to the service area without having to tote them around.
So it all came out.
Now there are two new lights that can be controlled from either end of the hallway. The door will be sealed off and service for TWIN washers and TWIN dryers (all stacked up and modern looking) will be in place.
There’s also supposed to be a special place for something called an “ironing board”. I think it’s a type of weightlifting equipment or something.
