Plumbing # 1

Plumbing, like much of life, operates by rules that aren’t written down anywhere but which you have to learn by experience.

• Copper pipes wear out eventually. 
• The phrase, “Wow, didn’t expect that,” is very expensive. 
• Plumbing is much like making sausage – you will enjoy it more if you don’t watch the process of how it is made. 
• It’s very difficult to change your mind about plumbing once the “bones” are in place. 
• This from Dad (Thanks, Wayne!!) – Never, ever, Ever, EVER begin a plumbing project in the evening or any other time when the hardware stores are closed or closing if you are going to have to turn the water to the house off. Even if you are absolutely certain that you have all of the parts already. This has with it a corollary – “You will always have to turn the water to the house off to complete a plumbing project.” 
• Avocado, and it’s cousin Gold, were never good color choices for tile. Not even with all the drugs going around in the 60’s.
